India and Mauritius Collaborate on Groundbreaking Satellite Development

India and Mauritius have joined hands to embark on an innovative collaboration in the realm of space technology. The two nations are jointly developing a small satellite that is set to be launched early next year. This groundbreaking initiative is the result of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between India and Mauritius, solidifying their commitment to cooperation in the field.
The project involves close collaboration between the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) and the Mauritius Research and Innovation Council (MRIC). Together, they will work on the development of the joint satellite, a task that will also see the participation of Indian industries in the realization of certain subsystems for the satellite.
The estimated timeframe for the completion of the satellite is 15 months, and India will bear the cost of approximately Rs 20 crore for the project. This joint endeavor holds significant strategic value for both countries. For India, it ensures continuous support from the Mauritius government for its ground station on the island nation, which plays a crucial role in its launch vehicle and satellite missions. In turn, Mauritius' involvement guarantees support from their ground station for ISRO's future small satellite missions.
This collaboration builds upon the longstanding space cooperation between India and Mauritius, which dates back to 1986 when ISRO established a ground station in Mauritius for tracking and telemetry support. The current partnership is governed by a country-level agreement signed in 2009, further strengthening the bilateral relationship in the field of space technology.
By pushing the boundaries of technological collaboration, India and Mauritius are poised to make remarkable strides in satellite development.
