The World Bank's Ease of Doing Report 2020 ranks Mauritius 13th out of 190 countries, with an ease of doing business score of 81.5, all simultaneously allocating a record ranking to the island. In 2018, Mauritius was ranked 20th globally, progressing from 25th in 2017, and 49th in 2016.
What is measured in Doing Business?
Doing Business presents quantitative indicators on business regulations and the protection of property rights that can be compared across 190 economies globally. The Doing Business Report measures the lifecycle of a business in the following ways:
Among all the indicators, the World Bank recognised improvements in 7 of these indicators for Mauritius. It should also be noted that Mauritius records positive feedbacks in line with the indicators namely 'Dealing with Construction Permits', 'Enforcing Contracts' and 'Resolving Insolvency'.
The country's ease of doing business score now stands at 81.5, hence bringing us further to benchmarking economies such as New Zealand that records a score of 86.8. Reckoned as the gateway to 'The Hopeful Continent', this recognition further showcases the competitiveness of Mauritius as a jurisdiction of substance in sub-Saharan Africa to investors for doing business and reinforces our position as the ideal country to do business in Africa.
